There are many helpful fitness health exercise articles that I have read, along with others that I find completely ridiculous.  It can be difficult to decipher the most accurate advice on fitness and help from publications, however here are my recommendations.

I favor articles that cite scientific facts and recent studies over those that promote the latest diet trend or fitness gimmick.

Once you have a firm grasp of your body’s need for protein, the other half of the equation is to expand your knowledge of fitness and the variety of exercises you can do to keep yourself building lean muscle. Along with reading fitness health exercise articles, I also have provided a variety of videos that demonstrate exercises you can do at home with little or no exercise equipment.

How long should you exercise?

Fitness health exercise articles frequently seen in magazines vary in the amount of exercise they recommend. I exercise at about 5 days per week for at least an hour. I don’t get on any treadmills or elipticals during that hour, instead I lift weights and do resistance training with no more than 30 seconds in between exercises. Within 10 minutes I am sweating and breathing heavy, getting my cardio workout at the same time as I train my muscles. Studies show you will burn more calories lifting weights and doing resistance training for an hour than you will doing just cardio for an hour. Sometimes I only have 30 minutes to exercise, so I will do high intensity resistance training and weights with only 15-second breaks in between exercises. I can get a fantastic workout in 30 minutes.

Benefits

Regular exercise will not only help you maintain a healthy body weight by maintaining lean muscle and reducing body fat, but it also improves the immune system, helps the heart, can delay or prevent diabetes and helps prevent some cancers. Many women’s health and fitness magazines as well as other health publications present recent studies about health and fitness that I find helpful and interesting. I am always on the lookout for new research and will make sure to bring it to you here on this website. The greater our knowledge of how the body works the more likely we are to make good choices about our food and exercise.

Variety of Exercises

I have tried each year to learn at least one new physical activity. I’m working on stand-up paddle boarding and kite surfing right now. Many fitness health exercise articles cover what can be done in the gym but few I’ve seen provide a variety of outside options or more creative options. The broader the list of physical activities you participate in, the more likely you will be to stay active and do so year after year. No matter what climate you live in there are many outdoor physical activities you can add to your lifestyle that will benefit you.
